Abstract: Hematological Analysis Using Microscopic Blood Images is a research carried out to identify the various blood cells within a microscopic blood image, differentiate the abnormal blood cells from the normal blood cells using shape, texture and size characteristics, and give their respective significance (derived from the abnormal cell count). For this research we intend to use microscopic digital blood images which will be provided by the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine. The research focuses on extracting an area of interest, segmentation, feature selection and classification of the different blood cells (Red, White and Platelets) and generating reports with their image counts/significance as outputs. The research will focus mainly on identifying red blood cell abnormalities in order to support diagnosis of indicative diseases. The deployed system is expected to support doctors all over Sri Lanka make accurate diagnosis whilst spending less time in front of a microscope.
