Abstract: Navigation in congested roads is a problem that has to be solved. The proposed solution is given using smart phones that will operate in two modes. In one mode it will provide traffic information to a central system; in another mode it will use the traffic information from that central system to guide the driver. Provided the route and the time of departure, the system is able to forecast the time of arrival based on historical as well as predicted information. If the system finds out a route which is better than the ongoing route, while the application is switched on, it will automatically suggest that alternative path as well. The users of this application will be able to adapt to various traffic scenarios and the ultimate goal of this system is to achieve better traffic distribution on the road network.
